Satisfaction with stomach cancer screening in National Cancer Screening Program

Abstract
Background : The aim of this study is to identify the level of satisfaction with and the factors associated with satisfaction of the national stomach cancer screening program in Korea.

Methods : A population-based telephone survey was conducted by trained interviewers using a questionnaire. Data on general characteristics and satisfaction with stomach cancer screening were collected from 369 respondents. Satisfaction was classified into 6 domains: interpersonal skills of staff, personal manner and respect, privacy protection, physical surroundings, understanding of test results, and general satisfaction.

Results : Of the six dimensions of satisfaction, protection of privacy was given the highest score. ignificant factors in the upper gastrointestinal radiography group were age group (p<0.01), residence (p<0.01), education (p<0.05), results of screening (p<0.05) and screening unit (p<0.001). The score of the static unit was higher than the mobile unit. Significant factors in the gastrointestinal endoscopy group were gender (p<0.05), age group (p<0.001), education (p<0.05), insurance (p<0.05), and
hospital type. However, the upper gastrointestinal radiography group was not associated with gender and insurance, and the gastrointestinal endoscopy group was not associated with result of screening on the satisfaction(p>0.05).

Conclusions : When the facilities and equipments of mobile unit screening and equipment¡¯s kind explanation¡¯s are considered, the level of satisfaction and the quality of care of mobile unit screening will be increased.
